La Etología Aplicada es una disciplina orientada a comprender el comportamiento animal y garantizar su bienestar en los diversos contextos de interacción con los seres humanos. Estos escenarios abarcan desde las intervenciones asistidas con animales, en sus diferentes modalidades, hasta el manejo responsable de animales domésticos, el mantenimiento de fauna salvaje en cautiverio y las estrategias de conservación y reintroducción tanto in situ como ex situ.

En esta tercera edición, las Jornadas de Etología ponen el foco en la emoción y el bienestar animal, dos dimensiones inseparables que influyen directamente en la calidad de vida de los animales y en la ética de nuestras prácticas. Analizaremos cómo las emociones impactan en su comportamiento, salud y adaptación, y exploraremos herramientas y enfoques que promuevan entornos más respetuosos y enriquecedores para ellos. 

Actualmente, se está llevando a cabo la XII Edición del Máster en Etología Aplicada e Intervenciones Asistidas con Animales (IAA), dirigido por las profesoras Ana Mª Fidalgo de las Heras y Susana Mª Sánchez Rodríguez, del Departamento de Psicología Biológica y de la Salud de la Facultad de Psicología. Tras doce ediciones y la celebración de la primera y segunda jornada de este evento en mayo de 2024, y marzo y abril de 2025 respectivamente, cuyos resultados fueron muy positivos, seguimos constatando el interés en crear un espacio de encuentro para los egresados y otros profesionales del ámbito. 

Este espacio permitirá visibilizar el trabajo realizado en el campo. Consideramos que los actuales estudiantes del Máster pueden beneficiarse significativamente de asistir a esta jornada, y aún más los ponentes, quienes tendrán la oportunidad de compartir sus investigaciones y conocer el trabajo de otros profesionales. Además, la jornada estará abierta a cualquier estudiante interesado en la Etología Aplicada, especialmente aquellos de grado y posgrado en Psicología de nuestra Facultad. 

Las III Jornadas de Etología aplicada organizadas por el Máster de formación permanente en Etología Aplicada e Intervenciones Asistidas con Animales se desarrollarán en los días 24, 25 y 26 de marzo. El contenido de las mismas se centrará en la emoción y bienestar animal, siendo el primer día destinado a conferencias sobre los animales: seres emocionales. El segundo día sobre el bienestar emocional en los animales y el tercero sobre la emoción de los animales y su bienestar con experiencias y trabajos aplicados desarrollados por profesionales vinculados al propio Máster de Etología aplicada e intervención asistida con animales. 

El formato combinará clases magistrales y participaciones en formato mini charla de 30 minutos, así como una mesa redonda. Contaremos con la participación de profesionales de diferentes empresas y profesores de la UAM y otras universidades. Las clases se desarrollarán en un formato abierto a la participación y al debate con los asistentes. Además, se facilitarán encuentros informales en las jornadas cada día, promoviendo nuevas sinergias entre ponentes y asistentes. 

Las III Jornadas de Etología de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid cuentan con el reconocimiento de 1 ECTS. Esta es una excelente oportunidad para ampliar conocimientos en bienestar animal y manejo ético, y obtener créditos académicos por la participación en las mismas.

La misión principal de la red es compartir conocimientos e intercambiar ideas y experiencias sobre la organización de eventos y la utilización de los espacios y servicios universitarios para este fin, y contribuir a la consolidación de las universidades como lugares de encuentro y de organización de actividades, potenciando la visibilidad y el papel de las mismas en el mercado de la industria de reuniones. La Red quiere ser también motor de innovación e intercambio de servicios entre las universidades, para atender los intereses tanto comunes como individuales de los asociados.

La red realiza un encuentro anual en el que se ponen en común las novedades del sector, y se intercambian experiencias y buenas prácticas. El XVIII Encuentro OCUE tendrá como sede nuevamente Madrid. La universidad que acogerá en esta ocasión el encuentro será la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Las jornadas tendrán lugar en la Residencia que la Universidad tiene en el municipio de Miraflores de la Sierra, a las afueras de Madrid.

Los encuentros de la RFN —conferencias y desconferencias, festivales y reuniones— son un espacio abierto a todos los interesados en las culturas cinematográficas radicales para reunirse, conversar y compartir experiencias y conocimientos sobre cómo concebimos y desarrollamos nuestra práctica. Tras los anteriores encuentros de la RFN en Birmingham, Glasgow, Nueva York, Tolpuddle, Dublín, Nottingham, Berlín y Génova, la conferencia de la Radical Film Network del próximo año tendrá lugar en Madrid, del miércoles 19 al sábado 22 de junio de 2024.

Each Session is coordinated by a specialist on the subject from an A-4U university.

The 4 topics have been chosen with a will to enhance the vitality and creativity of the African continent from an African perspective in four specific areas of high impact and relevance: African Women on the Move, What can Africa tell us about Migration?, Securing Food Production in a Climate Change Environment, and Whose Culture? Cultural Appropriation and Repatriation in Africa.

In the opening session, African Women on the Move, the A-4U is proud to host Ms. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, former President of Liberia and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, and Ms. Mª Teresa Fernández de la Vega, President of the Women for Africa Foundation.

The Event will count on the presence of eminent personalities of international prestige and leading researchers. The 4 Debates will be conducted by a team of moderators with extensive experience in the African continent: La Vanguardia correspondent in Africa and author of several books on the Continent, Xavier Aldekoa, exalumni of one the A-4U universities who as a journalist has covered conflicts and social matters in over 40 African countries, and the journalist and writer Agus Morales, director of the Revista5W magazine who publishes articles at The New York Times on a regular basis.

As part of its internationalization strategy, the Alianza 4 Universidades, a partnership of four leading Spanish public universities: Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Universidad Carlos III in Madrid (UC3M) and Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona (UPF), is seeking to strengthen and widen its links with African universities. In this regard, the A-4U has organized a Series of Debates with African scholars in Autumn 2021 around 4 topics about the present and the future of Africa, such as feminism, migrations, climate change and African culture. The Event, entitled “Reshaping the Dialogue with Contemporary African Worlds” and addressed to the University community and the general public, has been funded by the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX).

Digital technologies are giving impressive results in museographic interpretations of archaeological remains, thanks to 3D models of buildings and artefacts. Without demeaning “old-style” wooden and cardboard models, such as the wall of the Heuneburg IV, the newest 3D information platforms provide very stunning results, full of colours, complex in details, and deeper in three-dimensional discourses like never before. Compared to the amount of time, ability, raw material and research spent in conventional models, 3D printers can produce physical models in a cleaner, faster and cheaper way. However, such attractive discourses are usually developed over weak probative knowledge bases, where stratigraphy and archaeological context play only a minor role. Although museographic illustrations should never be used without publishing their research-based principles, these are generally not relevant to business or political interests. For this reason, 3D information displays have become a very useful tool to enrich past realities, despite a complexity that often makes archaeologist wonder if they have to be prehistorians or software specialists. Thus, we believe that virtual 3D reconstructions are a valuable research tool, as long as they are used with enough detail and a methodological base. At this conference, we aim to approach the variety of methods and protocols for the scientific use of 3D technologies applied to the study of later prehistoric architecture from the European Metal Ages, beyond mere illustration. Orthophotographs obtained by satellite or drone, as well as LiDAR scanning and ground-penetrating radar provide consistent results that combined with the use of 3D software, architecture, ethnography, stratigraphy and chronology will allow us to develop more solid and innovative research.

An important aim of this conference will be to try and arrive at agreed principles for the use of digital technologies in archaeological research, specifically as applied to the Metal Ages, and cast these into a formal guidance document. It is hoped that such a document will provide the scientific community with specific guidelines to help and justify the application of digital technologies in implementing projects to reconstruct or rebuild structures and built environments of the prehistoric past that remain true to the scientific evidence, with the rigor and reliability that society expects of us.

The main chronological scope of this conference is defined as the Metal Ages, from the Copper Age to the end of the Iron Age, in line with the remit of the UISPP’s Scientific Commission “Metal Ages in Europe” under whose auspices it is organized. However, proposals of contributions focusing on sites or structures dating to the end of the Neolithic or the early Roman Empire are also acceptable, provided that in methodological terms they are contribute to attaining the main objectives of the conference.

By the same token, the European focus expressed in the name of the Commission does not preclude the acceptance of contributions dealing with sites from any part of the Mediterranean, or even elsewhere in the world, where this is justified by the proposal’s wider interest.

The conference will focus on four different lines of debate, detailed below. Within these, priority will be given to proposals that focus on case studies of digital applications whose outcomes can be applied to other sites and built environments of the Metal Ages. Contributions cannot have been published previously and must offer a notable degree of methodological innovation.

1^st line of debate: Application of digital techniques to architectural features in Archaeology

The application of digital techniques to built structures is, potentially, the most developed branch at present, at least as far as the size and the extent of the archaeological remains are concerned. As a consequence, these applications have become the most powerful tool at the disposal of archaeologists, architects and restorators for reconstructing and interpreting ancient buildings, and for increasing our knowledge of those structures through non-destructive means, more quickly and more cost-effective, without many of the issues posed by excavation.

2^nd Line of debate: Application of digital techniques to archaeological objects in Architecture

Similarly, digital techniques facilitate new lines of enquiry that advance the study of archaeological objects, providing surprising results that just a few decades ago were unimaginable. The potential to undertake virtual reconstructions of deteriorated or fragmented objects, allowing us to calculate the weight, volume and capacity, apart from providing functional solutions for objects that are difficult to reproduce, has opened up the possibility of new interpretations that need to be underpinned by solid and consistent research.

3^th Line of debate: Application of digital techniques in museology of the archaeological Architecture

By the same token, these digital techniques have had a profound and radical impact on the media and resources used in museum practice. The capability of digital applications dedicated to the virtual reconstruction of archaeological remains and of the technical, social and ideological processes that led to their formation, is one of the most obvious advances of those applications as perceived by the general public. The traditional limited use of audio-visual resources in museums and exhibitions has been is now being integrated into new communication technologies (ITCs), such as TV streaming services, customized networks, or virtual learning environments which allow full interaction between the sender and the recipient of any sent message.

4^rd Line of debate: Application of digital techniques in Archaeometry

Finally, digital techniques have facilitated and increased the cost-effectiveness of geochemical and bioarchaeological analyses, enhancing what the relevant analytical techniques can achieve, their level of precision and how their results can be presented and disseminated, and facilitating the understanding and the interpretation of the relevant data in the historical process that is studied by Archaeology and History.
